LHDN e-Invoice: what Malaysian SMEs need to prepare
e-Invoice is not a new tax. It is a new way of reporting invoices you already issue. The change that catches most businesses off guard is not the technology — it is the data hygiene the system assumes you already have.
Start with your customer master data
Every e-Invoice submission requires the buyer TIN. If your customer records are incomplete, validation fails at submission, not at month end. Collect and verify TINs before your compliance date, not after.
Decide who issues, who validates
Assign one person to own submission and one to own exception handling. Rejected invoices need a same-day response; without a named owner they sit unresolved.
Test with real transactions
Run a parallel month where you issue both your normal invoice and a test e-Invoice. Reconcile the two. Differences reveal the gaps in your process while there is still time to close them.
